This is probably the most recognized model of the Windsor style. The arm and bow are steam bent, and held together using mortise and tenon joinery. It has an oval seat, seven delicate spindles.

Also known as a "tavern chair" because of its widespread use in these establishments during colonial times, or as "garden chair" when painted green and used during exterior tea parties.

Appeared around 1770, It seems the name sackback refers to a sack-like covering that is said to have been pulled over the backs of these chairs with the purpose of reducing winter drafts.
