The Bow Back chairs have a bow that forms the whole back of the chair. It is supported by two bracing spindles to add rigidity and strength. The ends of the bow are held in the seat using mortise, tenon and wedge joinery.

Of all 19th century chairs, this is probably the most popular model and the one that one is most likely to find in an antique store.

This particular model has been inspired by a chair built from 1780 to 1800, from the New-York City area. It has a finely sculpted shield shaped seat, and nine thin spindles.
