Craftsman
After a brilliant career in the High Technology industry as a software architect, I have decided to drastically change career orientation. In 2006, I abandoned electrical engineering to embrace the ancestral techniques of hand-made Windsor chair making.
I discovered the joy of working with hand tools while doing custom furniture work. Planes, spokeshaves, drawknifes are a joy to use when properly tuned. I love so much working with hand tools, that I decided to work exclusively with them. My love of the craftsmanship involved in using these century old techniques lead me to discover Windsor chairs.
What a discovery it has been. Since I have built my first Windsor under the tutelage of Windsor chair masters in New-England, all other types of furniture have been occluded off my list. I am now fully devoted to the style.
My daily work involves techniques and traditions of old. All work is done entirely with hand tools. You will find in my shop tools that you could have found in a chairmaker's workshop 200 years ago.
Following in Samuel Park's footsteps, the first Windsor chairmaker in Montreal in 1797, hand crafted Windsors are back in Montreal after a 200 year absence.
I am a member of the "Conseil des métiers d'art du Québec" (Quebec Applied Arts Council).
