Handcrafted Windsor Chairs
I hand craft a large variety of Windsor chairs according to ancestral methods with some contemporary adaptations when required. While using noble and ecological methods, I produce chairs of exceptional quality which tend to be heirloom items for generations to come.
love story between craftsman and his Windsor chairs
I have always been fascinated by ancestral techniques and skills of bygone years, namely in the furniture trade. For the last nine years, I have been producing customized antique reproduction furniture for customers.
Four years ago, I discovered the joy of building Windsor chairs with master chairmakers from the United-States. Under their guidance, I have learned to create Windsor chairs with the same tools and techniques that were used by our forefathers some 200 years ago. I have since then devoted myself uniquely to this wonderful style.
They are built with antique tools such as drawknifes, adzes, spokeshaves and braces, and using raw materials such as green ash, maple, hide glue and cassein paint. It is said that if chairs were violins, Windsor chairs would be Stradivarii because of their finesse, grace and form.
Each chair requires about 80 hours of skillful labor. Since all parts are made from raw materials by hand, each chair is unique and has its very own character.
The chairs may also be adjusted to suit individual needs - width, height, rockers can be modified according to a specific customer's wish.
